Youth today are facing even greater challenges of homelessness, foster care, family incarceration, human trafficking, and substance abuse need holistic support systems to help them overcome barriers and thrive.
Rise in Homelessness: In 2024, the Antelope Valley experienced a 42% increase in homelessness, the most significant surge among Los Angeles County regions.
Female-Headed Households: In Palmdale, approximately 16% of households are female-headed with children, which is higher than the Los Angeles County average of 6%.
Child Abuse and Neglect: Children in the Antelope Valley face higher rates of abuse and neglect compared to other parts of Los Angeles County.
Suicide & Opioid-Related Deaths: In 2022, the Antelope Valley experienced 10.9% suicide and 6.4% opioid-related deaths per 100,000 residents, surpassing both the Metro region and West Los Angeles.
Foster Care Population: The Antelope Valley is home to the largest number of foster care placements in Los Angeles County, serving children from families all over the county.
Incarceration Rates in the Antelope Valley: Nearly 9% of children statewide have an incarcerated parent. The Antelope Valley experiences higher percentages, considering its elevated incarceration rates.
